Miguel Ontiveros

Miguel Ontiveros (b.1994) raised in Little Village on the Southwest side of Chicago is an artist who works between the media of photography, collage, and other cross interdisciplinaries. Ontiveros' photo collages explore visual-spatial investigations from his neighborhood. He deconstructs and layers his own personal photo archive in relation to self and site, elevating the neighborhood structures that often get overlooked.

Ontiveros was awarded the Doug and Laurie Kanyer Art Collection Recipient (2019) and the Oxbow Leroy Neiman Scholarship (2016). Ontiveros was a resident at The Weaving Mill for 2019 and attended the Oxbow-School of Art Residency for his studio and research practice at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He holds a BFA from SAIC with an emphasis in Photography and was a former teaching assistant at his alma mater (ChiArts).

Ontiveros has shown at exhibitions including SOFA Chicago at Navy Pier, Fiesta del Sol, Kolaj Fest at LeMieux Gallery in New Orleans, Filter Photo at Latitude, and Sullivan Galleries. Ontiveros' work can be found online on Filter Photo and "Critical Issues in Collage" (2019) magazine.
